Penreco's Versagel^®M (Moisturizing Factor) series of gels is based on gelling hydrocarbons in such a manner as to promote improved skin occlusivity and TEWL. These gels are patent-protected. Clinical studies with gelled mineral oil have shown that moisturization as measured by TEWL improves 53% even though the gel contains > 90% mineral oil.
